HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (April 6, 2009)
– Richard Johns, a veteran NASCAR race engineer, has joined forces with Kenny Hendrick, who currently pilots the No.
42 Dodge in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, to take over the day to day operations of Suspension Systems, LLC. Richard Johns
Race Engineering and Hendrick’s Suspension Systems have formed a partnership that will expand the role of both companies
moving forward.
Located in Huntersville, N.C., Suspension Systems has serviced the suspension needs of the motorsports industry for the past nine years. With Johns’
engineering expertise, the new partnership between the two companies will allow the organization not only to sell and service
shocks and suspension components, but also offer engineering services for any motorsports application. Additional services
include shock revalving and dyno tuning, shock repair, motorcycle fork service, shock rentals, data acquisition, track support,
car and bike setup, component design and manufacturing and custom built race ATVs.
A 2005 graduate of the University of North Carolina Charlotte with a degree in Mechanical
Engineering, Johns is no stranger to the sport of auto racing. The 27-year-old Georgia native joins Suspension
Systems after spending many years working as a NASCAR race engineer. Also an accomplished racing driver, Johns first got behind
the wheel of a go kart at age nine. In the years since, he has experienced success in
the Professional Auto Truck Racing Series (PARTS), the Southern All-Stars SuperTruck Series, the ARCA RE/MAX Series, the Georgia Asphalt Series (GAS) and among the American Speed Association (ASA) Late Model Stock Car
ranks. In 2007, while also serving as the head engineer at Team Rensi, Johns took over the reigns as driver of the No. 25
entry for Team Rensi in the NASCAR Busch (now Nationwide) Series for 15 races.
The collaboration between Richard Johns Race
Engineering and Suspension Systems brings the company over 30 years of combined experience in all levels of racing, including
Sprint cars, ATV’s, motorcycles, late model cars, road racing and NASCAR.
In addition to his engineering work, Johns continues
a thriving driving career in the Late Model division of the American Speed Association, the Georgia Asphalt Series and the
Southern Pro Late Model Series. Johns is also pursuing opportunities to return to NASCAR Nationwide and Camping World Truck
Series competition.
